North Acton Public Realm Prospectus— London

Client(s)

Old Oak And Park Royal Development Corporation / Ealing Council

Collaborator(s)

Mott MacDonald / LDA Design

5th Studio has been supporting Ealing Council and the Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation (OPDC) with developing a Place Prospectus for proposed improvements to North Acton’s streets and spaces.

North Acton sits within the UK’s largest regeneration area, attracting significant investment in development which needs to be carefully integrated with the area’s existing communities. As North Acton changes, its streets and spaces need to be improved to make them enjoyable, connected, accessible and welcoming. Ealing Council and OPDC have secured funding from local developers to improve the streets and spaces in and around North Acton. North Acton Station Square is the first in a series of these improvements.

To help to improve the street environment, we have identified five initial projects to be delivered in the next few years and a long-list of other projects. These projects will be set out in the North Acton Public Realm Prospectus.

The projects will be fully accessible and we want them to provide examples for best-practice inclusive design that everyone can use and enjoy. The projects will also be considered and designed to be adaptable, durable and resilient to be enjoyed by today’s and tomorrow’s users.

Project aims:

  • Deliver up to six short-term public realm projects between 2022 to 2026, focused on public land;
  • Propose longer-term projects after 2026;
  • Work with landowners to complement and coordinate projects;
  • Funded by S106 funds; and
  • Development of an overarching plan.

Two rounds of public consultation events have been undertaken. In March 2022 we asked the local community abour what people liked and didn’t like about North Acton’s streets and spaces. We used this feedback to inform early ideas for projects, which we then consulted on in May 2022, using the feedback to inform the development of the final proposals.
